"Activism begins with you. Democracy begins with you. Get out there. Get active! Tag, you're it".
― THOM HARTMANN
We represent horses at the state and federal levels in the US, as well as legislative and regulatory bodies in Canada and Brussels.
We are chiefly active in the US, and spend a large portion of our resources battling against horse slaughter and the horse meat trade.
The first attempt to ban horse slaughter on US soil was successful. In November 1998 California voters passed Proposition 6 banning horse slaughter by nearly 5 millions votes! It is illegal there to this day. But there were still horse slaughter plants operating in states across the US.
That inspired legislators in Washington DC to try to ban the slaughter of horses and their export for slaughter in July 2001, during the first session of the 107th Congress. It was not successful, and we are still fighting that battle to this day.
While we were successful shutting horse slaughter plants down on US soil, we have not been able to stop the export of live horses to Mexico and Canada for the purposes of slaughter.
